Jomo Thompson

KCA is so excited for Jomo to continue his decorated coaching career at the gym. His long list of accolades and championships speak for themselves. Born in St. Kitts and Nevis, which is located in the Caribbean, Jomo and his family moved to Orlando, Fla. when he was eight years old. He began his athletic career participating in gymnastics and diving in high school. He went on to cheer at the University of Florida for two years and then transferred to the University of Kentucky in 1996. His first coaching gig was that same year with the famed Henry Clay High School here in Lexington. Upon graduation from college with a degree in Psychology, Jomo went on to receive his Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), and joined the staff as an assistant coach for three years. Jomo was then named head coach in 2002. He helped the UK cheer program win 18 of their 24 national championships: three as an athlete, three as an assistant coach and 12 as head coach. Jomo has also helped several surrounding high schools to win three national championships at UCA Nationals and numerous state titles. Jomo was also the first head coach for the inaugural USA Cheer team in 2009 where the team won the gold medal at the World Cheerleading Championships. Jomo says his favorite thing about coaching is seeing athletes gain new skills and developing the confidence In themselves that they didn’t have before. Everyone welcome Jomo K.
